GANONDAGAN STATE
HISTORIC SITE

(also known as Boughton Hill)
and the Seneca Art & Culture Center, is a
Native American history site in Ontario County
providing insight into & celebration of the culture
of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) people.

A large part of the Finger Lakes heritage comes
from the Native Americans who lived here
long before European settlers arrived.

GANONDAGAN STATE
HISTORIC SITE

pays tribute to that important history on the very
grounds where a sizeable Seneca community
flourished more than 300 years ago.

GANONDAGAN STATE
HISTORIC SITE

keeps the customs & beliefs of the Seneca and
Haudenosaunee  (Iroquois) people alive with events
throughout the year celebrating music, dance, agriculture,
crafts, sports, arts and language. Its 500 acres of rolling
hills, fields and forests are threaded with miles of
self-guided hiking trails, as well as a full-sized replica
of a 17th Century Seneca bark longhouse, furnished
with Seneca-crafted household items and
European/colonial goods aquired by trade.

The Seneca Art & Culture Center,
which is on the grounds of

GANONDAGAN STATE
HISTORIC SITE

gives visitors insight into the Native American way of life
and rich cultural heritage. Open 11 months of the year,
this world-class interpretive center includes several
distinctive features. The interactive gallery weaves
together ancient artifacts, historic documents & modern
art into several themed narratives. An orientation theater
gives visitors the fascinating opportunity of watching the
animated documentary, "The Iroquois Creation Story."
An auditorium hosts live music and dance performances
and special events throughout the year.

Festivals & special events
throughout the year are also part of the

GANONDAGAN STATE
HISTORIC SITE

experience, from the Indigenous Music & Arts Festival in
July to the Native American Winter Games in February.

Finally, what would a celebration of culture be
without food? The Iroquois White Corn Project at

GANONDAGAN STATE
HISTORIC SITE

revives an heirloom variety of corn that sustained
people for centuries. It is now grown by local farmers
and hand-processed into a wholesome, nutritious food
cherished by home cooks and restaurant chefs, alike.
Proceeds from Iroquois White Corn, sold at the Seneca
Art & Culture Center's gift shop, help support the future of

AMERICA's FIRST SHOPPING MALL
HISTORIC
VALENTOWN MUSEUM

(originally called Valentown Hall)
is on the National Historic Register, and is just
one in a cluster of historic 19th Century buildings
at 14-acre Valentown Square, off Route 96
across from Eastview Mall in Victor.

In 1879, Levi & Alanson Valentine constructed
the 4-story shopping plaza & community center
(complete with underground parking) on a busy
crossroads homestead owned by their grandfather,
Ichabod Town, hoping the property would be a stop
on the Pittsburgh, Shawmut and Northern Railroad.

A year later the Hall was hired by the newly-formed
Victor Grange to house the Grange meetings and
community socials, plus a place for stabling horses;
and furniture was also bought for the Hall. For over
30 years, the Hall was home to the Victor Grange,
until the Mertensia Grange merged with them
in 1913, and on March 7, 1914 the last Grange
meeting was held at the Hall. The following week
in an article about the March 7th meeting in The
Victor Herald, it was poignantly observed that
"This old hall fairly rings with the echoes of
Grange meetings and social gatherings, and it
will be long before the Grange & Valentown Hall
cease to be associated in the public mind
."

The landmark 4-story building is a rare example of 19th
Century architecture that has remained almost unaltered
since its original construction in 1879. The inside contains
the original Grange meeting room, a Grange run co-op
general store and bakery, community meeting room,
harness shop, millinery shop, cobbler's shop,
music school, and 3rd Floor Grand Ballroom.

TODAY...
Valentown Hall is an intriguing Historical Museum
housing many exhibits with display cases and room
settings that depict historic made in America artifacts
and heirlooms that represent the rural life of 19th
and early 20th Century people who lived in the
Fishers/Victor area near Rochester, New York.

The Rotary Foundation
was established as the first American
"service organization" in 1905.

VICTOR-FARMINGTON
ROTARY CLUB

has served the communities of Victor & Farmington, NY
since 1976. This mighty little Club is made up of men
and women dedicated to improving global and local
communities. Our dedication to The Rotary motto of
"Service Above Self"
drives every decision our Club makes
and the projects we align with.

The mission of The Rotary is to encourage & foster:

(1) the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise;
(2) the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
(3) high ethical standards in business & professions (the recognition
of the worthiness of all useful occupations & the dignifying of each
Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society
); and
(4) the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal,
business and community life; and the advancement of international
understanding, goodwill & peace through a world of fellowship of
business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Any projects we support meet our chief criteria of

Rotary Founder, Paul Harris, said it best when he said,
"Since the beginning of civilization there has been
a surplus of sayers of things. If there is any one particular
thing in which I would have the Rotary distinguished from
other organizations, it is in the quality of character
which results in the doing of things."

VICTOR-FARMINGTON
ROTARY CLUB

takes this quote to heart. Our Club,
though few in numbers, gets things done.
